What is Athletic Therapy?

Have you been told your injury is “soft tissue”?  Have you been told you have tendinitis, bursitis, a tear, or a sprain?  Athletic Therapists are the folks you want to talk to.

Athletic Therapists specialize in treating musculoskeletal conditions- meaning any condition affecting your muscles, bones, and/or joints. Our approach focuses on correcting the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms resulting from the problem.  We put an emphasis on restoring patient health and returning you to your desired activity level- whatever that may be for you!

But…I’m not an athlete??

Athletic Therapy is for everyone! Athletic Therapists frequently work with active populations, because we are uniquely skilled at a functional recovery and individualizing therapy to your specific goals.  However, that makes us a good fit for anyone who wants to be able to move their body- any way that makes you happy.

Is it the same thing as Physiotherapy?

Our skills and curriculums have several overlaps with that of Physiotherapists.  However, Athletic Therapists are highly specialized in emergency injury assessment, MSK specific injury rehabilitation, and returning to activity, equipping us to handle pain at any point in its lifecycle.

Athletic Therapy is frequently covered under Extended Health Care plans in Alberta.  Please check with your provider to understand your coverage.
